Zukunft D is a new initiative to strengthen democracy in an interconnected and digital society. The project, led by AlgorithmWatch, aula, Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe, and Wikimedia Germany, will build expertise in this area, facilitate knowledge exchange, and ensure nationwide networking. It stands for greater participation, easy and fair access to information, secure data, public infrastructure, transparent decision-making and open data access For many people, it is important to experience democracy first-hand and to feel the value of collective action in a diverse society. Technological systems can help make societies more democratic, inclusive, and fair - but they also bring challenges. Zukunft D aims to examine and shape these interdependencies.
By promoting the participation and involvement of all social groups, we want to strengthen and revitalize democracy. Digital and offline activities and structures will be linked in ways that complement and reinforce each other. The project also focuses on groups that have been underrepresented in participatory processes. The topics covered by Zukunft D range from the development of democratic values, artificial intelligence, as well as data use to media literacy, digital education, and fostering diversity and inclusion.
Zukunft D is a joint initiative within the federal program “Demokratie Leben!” as part of the programme area “Development of a Federal Infrastructure”, funded by the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
